Research by Mail

If you are unable to make it to our Archives to conduct research, our experienced researchers will be happy to help you.

The Yarmouth County Museum and Archives has a wide variety of material on topics concerning Yarmouth County, NS.

​

Fees

The cost of research is $20.00/hr (with a minimum of 1 hour) for non-members and $15.00/hr (with a minimum of 1 hour) for members. People requesting research must first confirm how many research hours they’d like to purchase. Research fees must be paid in advance through *credit card or *cheque. We will do our best to take only the initial time authorized, however, if additional hours are needed by the researcher, we will contact you for authorization before continuing.

*If by credit card (VISA or Mastercard only): you may pay by clicking on the DONATE button at the top of this page or you may call the museum to give your number (call 902-742-5539 and ask for Lisette)

 

Important: Please fill out the form below for your request.

 

When sending your initial request for research, please include the research you’d like done (family, specific person, company, organization, etc.) and any information that you already have that will be relative to your request. Please allow 1-2 days for contact from the Archivist. Please allow 1-2 weeks for the completion of the research. Information will be sent via email unless otherwise arranged in advance. Additional postage charges will apply for mailed research.

Getting the information

The Archivist will send you the information found by the researcher all at once. After reviewing the research, if you would like us to follow-up on specifics we would be more than happy to do so.

 

Additional charges

Additional charges will apply for mailed documents.

Copies of scanned documents will be an addition .25$/copy.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The Yarmouth County Museum and Archives, owned by the Yarmouth County Historical Society stands on Mi’kma’ki (Mi’kmaq Territory) and supports culture, education, and arts on this land. We strive for meaningful partnerships with all the peoples of this province as we continue to live and work here. Through the Peace and Friendship Treaties, which the Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet), and Passamaquoddy Peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1725-1726, there was no surrender of lands nor resources. Agreements within these Treaties outline a path for the ongoing relationship between Nations in mutual respect.
