Visiting the Archives

Should I make an advance appointment?

It's always a good idea to contact us in advance, as this will ensure that you know our current hours and rates. Also, while the Curator and Archivist are on duty year round, it is possible that the Archivist may be on away when you hope to visit.

How should I prepare for genealogical research?

You should speak with all your relatives and gather as much information from your own family as possible.

  • Your information should be organized in such a way that it means something to you.
  • We suggest travelling with photocopies rather than original documents.
  • It is always better to have too much information than not enough.
  • Have a family tree drawn out that will help the Archivist, volunteer, or student quickly understand your lineage.
