Museum Exhibits & Collections

The Yarmouth County Museum has over 20,000 artifacts, both on display and in storage. Along with general collections such as costumes, shoes, ship portraits and musical instruments, we also have an assortment of unique (and often unusual) items of interest.

The Yarmouth County Museum's permanent exhibits highlight various aspects of the area's history, going back to its original Mi'kmaq inhabitants, moving forward through different time periods, and expanding to various industries, professions, and specialized displays. As you walk through the museum, each exhibit acts as a window into a different time and place.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The Yarmouth County Museum and Archives, owned by the Yarmouth County Historical Society stands on Mi’kma’ki (Mi’kmaq Territory) and supports culture, education, and arts on this land. We strive for meaningful partnerships with all the peoples of this province as we continue to live and work here. Through the Peace and Friendship Treaties, which the Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet), and Passamaquoddy Peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1725-1726, there was no surrender of lands nor resources. Agreements within these Treaties outline a path for the ongoing relationship between Nations in mutual respect.
