Volunteer and Career Opportunities

Volunteers are the lifeblood of any not-for-profit organization, and the Yarmouth County Museum and Archives is no exception. Many of our volunteers have been involved with the Society for upwards of 20 years, and we have new people "coming on board" all the time.

We like to see the volunteers do what they are most comfortable in doing! For example, if you like meeting and greeting the public, then a "front desk" job might be the best way to start, after a short orientation and training period by our Chair of Volunteers (and a volunteer herself). Perhaps you're more of a handyman and like tinkering with fixing things — we always have artifacts and building idiosyncrasies that need repairs. (You'd be a member of the "House" committee if that type of thing interests you.) If food and beverage activities are more your style, then the Hospitality Committee is the way to go.  If you’re a born shopper and buyer, you can help out in our own little retail outlet — The Mast Head Gift Shop.

Still others are fascinated by old clothing, uniforms and costumes… and so we have a large collection of the same, and a volunteer Costume Coordinator! Then there are the volunteers who love poring over old archival records, sorting through boxes of county documents, often unearthing some written buried treasures that are of such value to the heritage of the province.

We've got a place for your valuable leisure time at the Yarmouth County Museum and Archives… call or email the Director to inquire about your options.
